City of Long Beach, NY - Magnolia Senior Community Center

The five large boxes that arrived earlier this week were from the City of Long Beach, NY's Magnolia Senior Community Center. The boxes included 80 Hats, 13 pairs of booties, 14 head bands, 32 blankets, 5 scarves, 2 pairs of socks, 1 pair of mittens, 1 sweater, 1 poncho set and 6 adorable toys!!!!

It is impossible for me to photograph all of these amazing gifts in a way which will do justice to the beauty of these pieces and the wonderful craftsmanship and love that went into making each one.

These gifts, as you will see, were made possible by so many wonderful crafters, and so many residents from the Long Beach, NY area. Below I have quoted from the letter which accompanied the boxes:

Enclosed are beautiful children and baby garments and blankets created by the members of the Magnolia Senior Center Knitting/Crocheting Group. This is the second time our participants have donated items to your wonderful organization which sends gifts to the children of our deployed troops. Other projects by our seniors include the following
  • Lap blankets for the veterans in the Northport and St. Albans VA medical centers
  • Red, white & blue blankets as gifts for the wounded soldiers visiting Long Beach during three Waterfront Warrior events
  • Lap blankets for many students at the Roosevelt campus run by the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County
  • Lap blankets as holiday gifts for many residents of the four Long Beach senior citizen housing buildings.
The yarn used for the enclosed creations was donated by the caring residents of the City of Long Beach as well as Nassau County. Shipment of the donated items was paid for by the generous American Legion Victor Murtha Post 972 in Long Beach.

Thank you for your support of the families of our servicemen and women. It is an honor for us to assist in such a worthy cause.

Sincerely yours,

Linda Chong Haber, Chairperson
Long Beach Advisory Board for Seniors

Many thanks to all the amazing seniors who so generously donated their time and talent to make these truly wonderful gifts, to the American Legion Post 972 who shipped the gifts to us, and to all the great residents in and around Long Beach who donated supplies to the Senior Center!

Marine Corps Kids is honored that you have chosen to include us in your generous gifting, and knows that the the families who receive these gifts will be thrilled with them!!
